About Us

Welcome to Usui Reiki South Africa. We’re Reiki Masters John and Natasja King. Our story began when we married in 2001 and moved to London, where Natasja worked as a legal secretary and John as a BIM consultant for architects. Despite our stressful jobs and we always felt a connection to a greater power, and as we grew older, our awareness of this bond deepened, bringing us closer together.

John’s spiritual journey began first, driven by an inquisitive nature and a desire to understand life’s deeper questions: “What is the meaning of life?” and “Why is suffering necessary?” His search led him to question societal norms and scientific explanations, exploring new perspectives on spirituality and reality. It took Natasja a little longer to dive in—15 years, to be exact—before she finally followed John’s suggestion to read the life altering book Conversations with God. Her journey of self-awareness and transformation started in a surprising way: waking up one morning with the thought that she wanted to learn Reiki.

Natasja completed her Reiki Level 1 training at The Reiki Academy in London and began giving Reiki treatments to John. His skepticism and need for evidence made him the perfect test subject, and when the results spoke for themselves, John enrolled in a Level 1 Reiki course just a week later. As Natasja progressed in her training and eventually became a Reiki Master Teacher, she taught and attuned John to the Practitioner and Master Teacher levels.

In 2021, we returned to our native South Africa, settling in the beautiful Garden Route after over two decades in London. It was here that Natasja set up a Reiki practice offering Reiki treatments and began teaching Usui Reiki courses. Within a year, she expanded to also teach Reiki in Pretoria and Bloemfontein. John officially joined as a fellow Reiki teacher in 2024, and together we created Usui Reiki South Africa. Around this time, John also founded YOUniversity, an online learning platform for South Africans, reflecting his commitment to education and personal growth.

Our decision to team up and teach Reiki was a natural progression. After so many years of marriage and spiritual growth, supporting each other on the path to becoming our True Selves – both as individuals and as a couple – it made sense for us to combine our unique perspectives and skills. We each bring our own personalities, interests, and spiritual insights to our teaching, creating a well-rounded and complementary approach to Reiki training.

Our mission is simple: to spread hope and healing through empowering people to take charge of their own healing and transformation.
