In order to qualify as a Reiki Practitioner, students are required to submit documented case studies before being issued with certification, and have to adhere to minimum integration periods between the three levels of Reiki training. What is Reiki?

Reiki is an energy healing system, developed by a Japanese scholar Mikao Usui in Japan in the early 20th century. Its purpose is to bring balance and harmony to body and mind. During a treatment, the natural healing energy is absorbed by the client, so as to reinforce and support their body’s natural ability to heal itself. Reiki supports, and enhances, other forms of treatment, and as such is a complimentary therapy.

Is Reiki safe?

Yes, it’s safe for everyone, even pregnant women, babies and animals. It’s a non-invasive complimentary therapy with no side-effects. In fact, Reiki is offered as a complementary therapy to cancer and palliative care patients by numerous NHS hospitals in the UK and also at more than 50 hospitals in the USA. What can Reiki treat?

Reiki has the ability to reinforce the body’s natural ability to heal itself at all levels, whether physical, mental, emotional or spiritual. On an emotional level, it can be used to treat anxiety, stress, sleep problems, and release the emotional blockages that leave you ” feeling stuck”. What does Reiki feel like?

The Reiki experience differs from person to person. Common sensations you might become aware of during a Reiki treatment are warmth or cold at some points along your body, you might see colours or visions, have a tingling sensation, feel a vague “pulling” sensation from your head or your feet, slight pressure, or a floating sensation. Reiki can also sometimes cause a release of emotions. You may also feel absolutely nothing. Or all of these. The most significant effect that Reiki will have is deep relaxation. So even if you don’t have a physical sensation, you can rest assured that your energy field is becoming balanced, which starts the process of self-healing and leads to a greater sense of calm and stress relief.

What is a Reiki lineage?

A Reiki lineage is essentially a Reiki “family tree” – the chain of masters and teachers that connects a student back to Mikao Usui, the founder of Usui Reiki. It matters because a clear lineage tells you that the person was trained by someone who was properly trained themselves, in a recognized style of Reiki, and that there’s a real foundation behind how they offer Reiki treatments. In many countries, professional associations and insurers ask for a documented Reiki lineage in order to recognize practitioners or teachers.
