Usui Reiki Level 1
Reiki Level 1 training is just the beginning.
The founder of they system of Reiki, Mikao Usui, said that “all healing is self-healing”. You will definitely discover the truth of this when you take a Reiki Level 1 course. A Reiki course can truly be life-changing. Level 1 is primarily focused on healing the self, and as a result you will be able to also facilitate healing in others.
Anyone can learn Reiki. The Reiki energy flows through, and to, anyone who has intended to give or receive Reiki. Whether you are the CEO of a company, a stay-at-home-Mom, retired, or a Reiki Master with 20 years of experience, Reiki makes no distinction. The healing, positive energy is the same for everyone. It’s easy to learn yet profound.
The Reiki Level 1 course can be seen as as a personal healing and self-development tool, and it lays the foundation of Reiki. Having Reiki Level 1 empowers you to increase your energetic vibration yourself, or to share it with others and your family. Over the two days of the Level 1 course, you will receive four Reiki 1 attunements which starts the flow of Reiki energy. You will be able to treat friends and family, and to use Reiki for your own healing. (Note that you will only be able to set up a professional practice to treat others for a fee, after completing Reiki Level 2.)
The Usui Reiki system
Usui Reiki is an energy healing system developed by a Japanese scholar Mikao Usui in Japan in 1922. It is the most common, and original, style of Reiki. During a treatment, natural healing energy is transferred from the Reiki practitioner to the client, where it brings about balance and reinforces the body’s natural ability to heal itself. Usui Reiki also encourages personal growth and greater spiritual awareness.
Differences Between the Japanese and Western lineages of Usui Reiki
The Japanese lineage (Usui Reiki Ryôhô, translated as Usui Spiritual Energy Healing Method) stays true to Mikao Usui’s original teachings, focusing on spiritual and meditative practices. It often includes techniques like chanting, breathwork, and energy exercises, with an emphasis on self-development. Japanese Reiki tends to use more intuitive hand positions, allowing practitioners to sense where energy is needed most.
The Western lineage (Usui Shiki Ryôhô, translated as Usui Natural Healing Method) was introduced by Hawayo Takata in the mid-20th century, takes a slightly different approach. Hawayo Takata learned Reiki according to the Japanese lineage but adapted it slightly for Westerners by making it more structured with a set sequence of hand positions for healing. There’s a stronger focus on physical healing and using specific symbols and attunements to enhance the energy flow, making it more accessible and practical for many people.
In our Reiki courses we teach both the Western and Japanese lineages of the Usui Tradition.
