The Ripple Effect: Why Reiki Was Meant To Be Shared

Why do we give Reiki treatments? Why is Reiki still being taught all over the world? Why not just keep the practice to ourselves for our own wellbeing?

According to the memorial stone of Mikao Usui, sharing this energy healing method far and wide was always part of his vision. The intuitive, grounding work we do in our own lives is meant to ripple outward to the people around us.

Reiki researcher Mamoru Wakatake recently shared this translation from Mikao Usui’s Memorial Stone:

He [Mikao Usui] established his dojo to record this method and share it with the world.
The Usui Sensei Memorial Stone bears his words “Hitori sono kajin o yokusuru yori wa, hiroku seijin ni sazukete, tomo ni sono kei ni tayoru ni shikazu“.

Rather than keeping it to oneself and one’s family, it is better to teach it widely to the people of the world, and share the joy together.

Our Takeaway

Healing in isolation has its place, but there is profound strength in community. John and I can attest to the fact that it brings immense joy to share the teachings of Reiki, but it’s not only in teaching Reiki that ripples of wellbeing are created.

Whenever students gather together for a weekend of learning, when we join together in an online Reiki share event, every time there is an offer support on a WhatsApp group, or when we use the practical Reiki techniques and tools in our daily routines and for the benefit of others, we are participating in exactly what this practice was designed for: sharing the joy of Reiki, together.
